日本人英語学習者にとっていろいろなことを教えてくれる。

ご立派な大学教授の先生方や英語教育の専門家の方々が、英語教育についてうんぬんしている間に…

ひたすら、継続・声に出す等 をやることで英語が身につくということ。結局細かいことは気にせず、英米人相手に話をしていれば、英語を身につけるのはさほど難しいことではない。

A child of about eleven, garbed in a very short, very tight, very ugly dress of yellowish white wincey. She wore a faded brown sailor hat, and beneath the hat, extending down her back, were two braids of very thick, decidedly red hair. Her face was small, white and thin, also much freckled; her mouth was large and so were her eyes, that looked green in some lights and moods and grey in others.

SAY IT IN ENGLISH

Student: Could you tell me how to improve my English?

Well, there are many ways to improve your English.

First, you could make a to-do list. I mean, a list of what you should do every day. You need to make a habit of studying English.

Friend: I want to improve my English. Do you have any good ideas?

I’ve heard that there’s a very inspiring radio program for studying English.

The title is Radio Ei … something. I’m considering listening to it. Do you want to join me?

That’s right, guys. So this is our last lesson for the year. So, I just wanna thank you all for tuning in and listening every day.

Yes, it’s been a long road. 240 lessons. Can you imagine! Thank you for your great stamina. And keep it up because we’re gonna start another year soon.

Bye.

20220324 Thursday

なぜ、日本人英語学習者は英語を話せないのか?

その答えは、「語順はわかっているし、細かいところは追求するが、習熟していないから」

表現の並べ方はもちろん文法用語などについてもよくわかっているものの、肝心の実践を怠っているため、英語が話せるわけはない

この1年間で、実践した人、音読・暗唱を徹底的にやった人なら、ひょっとして英語が話せるようになっているかもしれない

Hey, everyone. Welcome to the last regular lesson of the year. 秋乃 ろーざ here.

Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. I wonder if you still think that ろーざ can be mysterious at times.

That’s true.

Hmm.

Lesson 239

なぜ、日本人は英語を話せないのか?

その答えは、「語順がわかっていないし、習熟もしていないから」

表現の並べ方さえわからないのに英語が話せるわけはない

That’s right, guys. So we hope you’ve enjoyed the lessons this year.

And we’ll see you for one last review, tomorrow.

Hi, guys. Yes. It’s been a long haul. But we’ve really enjoyed being with you. And we hope you’ve enjoyed learning as much as we’ve enjoyed teaching.

Keep it up!

Bye.

20220323 Wednesday

Hey, everyone. 秋乃 ろーざ here.

Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. More immediately. I’m glad this is the last recording before lunch because I could eat a horse.

Lesson 238   I want to eat my ramen slowly

I smell something good.

-thing/-body/-oneで終わる名詞は非常に漠然とした意味合いを持っている

何か/誰か 従ってその後ろにどんな何かなのか どんな誰かなのかを説明する必要が生じる 説明は後ろに置く something good

Wait, look at this long line!

Oh, this is that vegan ramen restaurant everyone’s talking about.

Do you want to have dinner here, Alexis?

I’ve been wanting to try it. We’re here, so we might as well join the line.

現在完了進行形 現在完了形は今に迫ってくる形 進行形は生き生きと行為を描写する形

今に至るまで、ずっと行為が繰り返し繰り返し行われている感触を持っている形

したがって、この文は、ずっとしたかったんだ ずっと食べたかったんだ という意味合いになる

Okay. I want to eat my ramen slowly, though. And let’s order some side dishes as well.

*side dishes サイドメニュー *as well = too ~も

Good idea. I could eat a horse!

*can eat 実際に食べることができる という内容になってしまう

*could eat食べることができるだろうな、という現実感のない表現

I’m starving too.

I want to browse my textbooks slowly. Let’s do some practice sentences as well.

Good idea!

GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY

This is that vegan ramen restaurant everyone’s talking about.

関係代名詞節 aboutに後ろに空所 みんなが~について話している

みんなが話している→話題になっている

説明ルールによる形

話してはまず先行詞(修飾される名詞)を言い切り、それを説明する意識で関係代名詞節を展開している

*might(may) as well

We might as well join the line.

してもかまわない・しかたない 積極的に望んでいるわけでも熱心にすすめているわけでもない。ただ、その場の状況から ~してもかまわない・しかたないよ と述べている

FEEL ENGLISH LIKE A NATIVE SPEAKER!

I want to eat ramen slowly.

*to infinitive が目的語の位置なら目的語

To know is one thing, and to teach is another.

*to infinitiveを主語の位置に置けば主語

“TO know is one thing.” This is wrong, right? Yes!

To know … know の方が意味的に大事 knowの方を強めに発音すること!

First of all, you should make a to-do list.

前 は指定の位置 to-do を前に置いた to-do list はやるべきことリスト

*list の種類を指定している

I have a lot of things to do.

*a lot of things to do では、to doは a lot of things の説明となっている

たくさんあるのです-やるべきことがね

I went to London to brush up my English.

動詞句の後ろにto infinitiveを置く

後ろ は説明の位置 *to brush up my English は went to Londonの説明

*went to Londonの説明だから、目的(~するために)の意味関係となる

英語はどこまでいっても 配置の言葉

GRAMMAR IN ACTION

I decided to join a sports club.

*to infinitiveを目的語位置におけば目的語

*decide これから~することを決める これから が強く感じられる「これから動詞」

目的語に verb-ing 形は使えない

To speak in public is always nerve-wracking.

I listen to Radio Eikaiwa to improve my English skills.

動詞句 listen to Radio Eikaiwaの後ろにto infinitive 動詞句の説明

*listen to の説明だから、何のために聞いているかの説明-目的の意味となるのは明らか

Yeah. Actually I think we all did really well. And I hope you guys learnt a lot.

But remember… Practice, practice, practice.

Bye.

20220322 Tuesday

Hey, everyone. 秋乃 ろーざ here.

Chris McVay here. You know what I really wanna say? I’m deeply honored to work with you, guys.

It’s a pleasure to meet you. この番組を聴いている方にとっては、絶対になじみのはず。

でも、実際場面でこのフレーズが出てくるかどうか…状況は果てしなく違ってくる。

日本人の英語学習者の陥っている落とし穴。小難しい英語法則に囚われてしまい、簡単であると思った筈の表現が実際場面ですぐには思い出せない。

簡単なことをうまずたゆまず続ける方がいいように思う。

Lesson 237

Being surrounded by friends. Hmm.

Have you ever actually experienced it?

Unfortunately not.

Yeah, because I’m looking around here and I can’t see any.

No, no. That just means we’re like family.

Ah, okay.

Bye.

今日もたいへん勉強になった。

ある程度理解できたら、その後は、まとまったフレーズを覚えること。

native English speakerのろーざさんが、「覚えないといけないですよ。一語のようにして」と教えてくださっているくらいだし。

日本人の英語学習者の足りていない部分を見事に指摘してくださった、ように感じた。

四六時中、哲学的会話をするわけではないのだから、簡単なことを表現するのに、いちいち「考えて」いたら、目の前の人は退屈してしまう。

Hey everyone. 秋乃 ろーざ here. Let’s see what will happen with Yuko and Thomas today.

Hi, guys. Chris McVay here. ろーざ. I need your help!

Okay, keep calm. I’ll get there as fast as I can.

Hey everyone. 秋乃 ろーざ here. Are you ready for today’s lesson. Let’s go!

Hey, guys. Chris McVay here. Buenos dias a todos y bienvenidos a nuestro programa.

This just means, “Hi, guys. Welcome to our program. Let’s begin.”

Lesson 224

You know, I’d say Chris is the most talented British guy in the studio.

Oh! Thank you for such a lovely compliment.

Oh! Wait a minute…

There’s only one British guy in the studio.

Right! That’s exactly what I meant.

That’s not funny! (_´)

20220302 Wednesday

Hey everyone. 秋乃 ろーざ here. Let’s get started.

Hey, guys. Chris McVay here.

ろーざ. You’ve got your name right again. That must have been….

I was just wondering about taking six months off.

Dream on!

Ah, okay.

Lesson 223

Ah… To believe or not to believe. That is the question.

Bye.

20220301Tuesday

Would you say that again? などと言って、それをノートに記録してなおかつ調べていたら、相手はいつの間にかあなたから離れて行ってしまうだろう。

「失敗というのは“学ぶための1つの大きな教材”だと思うんです。そこから何かを学べる。大事なレッスンだと思いますよ。
英語だって同じです。完璧な英語を話そうとする日本人もいるけど、いっぱい失敗した人ほど、うまくなっていくんです。大いに失敗しましょう。じゃないと何が正解かわからないから」 セイン・カミュ

Hmm. Hey everyone. 秋乃 ろーざ here.

Chris McVay here. I’m glad you could remember your name, ろーざ.

And a question for you. How would you rate my computer skills?

Umm. I think you should stick to real paints and brushes.

That wasn’t the answer I was hoping for.

Lesson 222

You know, it’s much more fun to watch Chris play table tennis than to play it with it?

Hmm… You don’t want to play table tennis with me?

’Cause he doesn’t wanna lose. That’s why. – That’s right.

Bye.
