Interview
6 Part 8
Okay.
Let’s listen to today’s interview.
Words
and Phrases
Flourish:
To thrive, to prosper, to do well or become successful. For example, Grandma
Moses was a famous artist who began her career in her 70s. Her career
flourished despite her age and limited use of her fingers.
Live
up to ~: To
meet expectations, to fulfill, to be as good as something or someone.
Calling:
A job you’re designed for, a job you’re destined to do, a job where you have the
natural talent to be successful.
Underestimate:
To give less importance than something deserves, to not give enough credit or
credence.
Have
second thoughts: To reconsider or have doubts about something, a lack of
confidence in the original idea or plan. Mr. Shibata said, “You may have second
thoughts if financial issues exist.” In this case, the person may feel hesitant
or want to reconsider their plans if financial issues exist.
Dissemination:
Dissemination, especially when it comes to information, is widespread distribution.
Sending ideas, plans, information, news and so on to as many people as
possible. The verb form of “dissemination” is “disseminate.” For example, news
disseminates so quickly now. We know what’s going on half way around the world
almost in real time.
Resonate
with
~: Technically,
“resonating” has to do with sound vibrations. If something resonates with you,
it creates positive feelings. It represents how you feel and think and feels
like your own expression. To click with something. To enjoy something that
suits your interests or ways of thinking.
Be
freed from ~: To be
released from something, to not be burdened by something anymore, to not have
to do with something unpleasant anymore. For example, I’ve been working from
home lately, so I’ve been freed from that long commute every day.
Curse:
A curse is unescapable misfortune or hardship. Something evil or hated often
used as hyperbole or exaggerated speech.
Hyperbole 絶対に綴れない 一生無理
Stimulating:
Sparking enthusiasm, excitement or interest. Something that makes you feel
active or think about things in a new way. Something that stirs the brain or
the senses.
